Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2020 were 10.1 million metric tons (Mt), an increase of 11% from shipments in June 2019, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through June totaled 47.9 Mt, an increase of 3% from those for the same period in 2019.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in June 2020 were, in descending order, Missouri, California, Texas, Florida and Michigan, these states accounted for 40% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia) received 37% of June shipments.
Masonry cement shipments totaled 223,000 metric tons in June 2020, an increase of 10% from those in June 2019. Shipments for the year through June totaled 1.2 Mt, a decrease of 2.3% from those for the same period in 2019. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in June 2020 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Tennessee and Georgia; these states received 55% of June shipments.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 6.9 Mt in June 2020, a slight decrease from production in June 2019. Production for the year through June totaled 36.7 Mt, an increase of 2.2% from the same period in 2019. The leading clinker-producing states in June 2020 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Pennsylvania; these states accounted for 49% of June clinker production.
